BP-SPONSORED GULF OF MEXICO RESEARCH INITIATIVE ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF RESEARCH FUNDING
The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GRI) Research Board announced today the availability of a minimum of $37.5 million per year to establish four to eight Research Consortia to study the effects of the Deepwater Horizon incident on the Gulf of Mexico. The research that will be conducted through these consortia will inform the scientific understanding of oil spill and dispersant impacts on ocean and coastal systems in the Gulf region, as well as other ocean and coastal systems, and how these systems respond to oil and gas inputs, especially large accidental inputs. The grant application guidance and requirements, along with the research themes that will be funded, are described in the GRI Research Board request for proposals (RFP-I). More information here.
